What is the fundamental issue of media impact? In other words, do you believe that media influences individuals, society and culture? If so, to what extent does it do so? How is the influence for you, if it is, from society overall?

  1. I believe that the media has a major impact on society today. Speaking for myself, it effects the way that I find out information. Meaning, I no longer need to search for it, it comes directly to me and the rest of the world almost instantaneously. As for our culture and society as a whole, there are so many sources for news and so many different stances and opinions that non-bias news is a rarity now. Before different news channels developed, anchors just told the news as fact, and left opinions out. Now there are biased, liberal, conservative, and other opinions involved that it has a direct impact on how the news is perceived by the viewers.

    1. There still are news outlets that try to avoid opinion and present the news as objectively as they can. The problem is that consumers must seek them out. Also, there is a problem with certain types ofnews being specifically directed to people who might have shown an interest before.
That said, don't just stay in your internet bubble, so to speak. Aways be looking and searching. The more you know the better you are able to understand.

  2. Today's Media are the ultimate transmitter between individuals and society. As an information society, media has a major impact in our daily activities because we rely on them for interacting with the world. In fact, the information we obtain through media help us in our decision making process. The political news shape our stance on politics, the weather forecast affect what we might wear, the advertisements we see influence our purchases and the television shows we watch act upon our behaviors as well as the way we perceive others. Although a useful tool for everyday life, media influence is not always positive in the sense that it encourages violencr actions or beauty complexity.

    1. So is the media more powerful? Or the consumer?

  3. In my opinion, I think that media has a major influence on society, culture, and the individual. Our entire generation is centered around media. We depend on the media for everything. We ARE a media-based society, which also ties in with the culture. For example, the black lives matter movement is apart of the culture. This movement wouldn't be what it is now without the media shedding light on what has been going on for decades. All of the trends displayed through the media, it's all apart of the culture. As for the individual, media has good and bad influences. For example, media can inspire an individual in a variety of ways. For instance, starting a business. Media allows us to be innovative. A bad influence media can cause on an individual comes from social media and the news, even due to violence of false depictions of how something or someone should be. Social media, especially, can take a major toll on one's mental health. Media definitely influences me on the daily. It, in a way, makes anything seem possible.

    1. Really good points, especially importance of media, social media, in the black lives matter movement. But does the media set the agenda or do the consumers?

  4. Today media is part of our lives. When your friend does not answer your message, you can send him a greeting on Facebook. when you just woke up and you do not want to walk to get your newspaper, you can use your phone to get information online. Blog and forum are also part of this because we use it to give our views on photos, articles ...
From this point, I can say that the media have an influence on us, society and culture of course. Seeing photos or videos we love on television, on social networks, may influence our way of behaving, dressing, thinking, acting ...
As we can see, the media has an impact that is both positive and negative on society. The positive thing is that it is a source of information, education, learning, gathering ...
But it is as destructive as looking for forbidden images, trying to imitate artist that do not dress properly and with bad behavior that does not actually sound to them. Messages of violence and destruction are part of it. All these aspects affect our culture and society.

  5. I believe media has a very big impact on society today. It impacts the way we fine out information. I also agree that media has a major impact on our daily lives because it seems to be the way we interact with other people. Speaking from a personal stand point, I feel like media effects my culture in a lot more negative ways than positive. Where I'm from, I can turn on the news anytime and hear about a murder of a teen. When you search these teen's Instagram pages you'll find a lot of negativity and a lot of quotes from rappers. With that being said, i feel a lot of kids where I'm from or dying because they look up to rappers who rap about "catching bodies". I also often times look on snapchat and find people pointing guns in cameras. It had gotten to the point that I decided to recently delete my Instagram and Snap chat. To conclude it all, media has a very big impact on society and because the media can show almost anything, its had a very negative impact on the youth.

    1. Your are right, the media can have negative affects. The consumers must be aware of that and think for themselves. In may ways media is important but only if used correctly. Media literacy is very important.
