Final blog post -- due Friday noon
We have watched David Puttnam talk about the media and ask if it has a moral imperative to create informed citizens, to support democracy. What do you think? Does the media have a responsibility to address important issues, to educate the public and attack those in the wrong? If so, how could this be done?
Nowadays, people think and believe that getting good information have a real impact on the decision they have to make. The media must tell everything to the audience, even important issues because as we all know, democracy is the active participation of the people as citizens, in politics and civic life; and to do so, citizens must be educated. First, the leading part of media is to give accurate information to the audience, whether the news is good or bad. Then, it is apt to the citizens to choose how they will react, but never to the media to encourage violence towards people. Finally, I think that, it is not the responsibility of media to attack those in the wrong, their role is not to judge anyone but just give information.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that the media has a responsibility to inform and educate its audience in important issues. However, I do not believe that the media should attack those in the wrong - under certain circumstances. Our information comes straight from various forms of media, so those in control of these media have a seriously important job to do. It's their responsibility to address important issues to the public and educate the people on these certain topics. This should be done with complete honesty, but sadly that is not always the case in today's society. Attacking those in the wrong, in my opinion, should only happen under the circumstances that the person was proven guilty of whatever wrong-doing. It's crucial that the media relays the truth to society. There shouldn't be any assumptions being made because that leaves room for lies and mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI think the role of the media is to give coherent and truthful information to the public while paying attention to children. Find a suitable means of disseminating information without hindering the learning of children in learning ages. Their role is not to educate but as a means of communication they have an impact on the behavior of each other, hence the need to moderate the information. Of being done they have no right to attack those in the wrong. Because in doing so they do not set a good example for the public. They just must give the information by not mixing what does not concern them.
ReplyDeleteI think the media plays a very important role on informing all audiences. They must report the news fairly, accurately, and in a timely manner. Reporting news and then attacking others that are wrong, is extremely unethical. People will always have different opinions, however, attacking them because they are different is not fair. As a society, we have a right to know what is happening in the world and we have a right to handle it in the best manner we find suitable. Tell us the facts, and we will take the rest from there.
